this is the first track MNTN and michael dollan made together, not long after they met on an International Musican's Network Facebook group.
MNTN sent a synth loop, and I must admit I wasn't sure what to do. So I added bass, beats, and a guitar - and thought about vocals, but couldn't quite get there - so I wrote a poem, spacing out the verses to leave gaps for a vocal from MNTN.
MNTN returned his vocal, and, well - that was pretty much that, the song was finished. Just like that... This set the scene for the fabulous collaboration process to follow...
lyrics
It’s all for me.
Everything.
(I called last week and I was trying to get back to you because
I wanted you to know that I’m not the only one that acts like this,
you do it too and… It’s unfair. Everything is unfair.)
Though I’m comfy and nurtured, I’ll still wait and I’ll see
If that hole that I fill, fills the whole yet of me.
See it nags and it gnaws, and it thirsts and it greeds,
Round pegs fit in square holes, just not properly.
I’m comical like an alien
Measure me to the trailing end
I haven’t friends for mailing men
It’s not truth, it’s not science, nor silence, nor dream.
Words hid behind actions, techno-memory.
Sent outwards, turned inwards, highlight and delete.
Where texture’s desired, instead meet glass sheet.
Housing him like a feeble hymn
While struggling to reach at sin
Everyone has an everything
But I am like a fairy being
Come not the morning, languid breath in dis-ease
Disturbed and disturbing, ectopic and brief.
Eyes open, closed vacant… weird syncope,
And the whole isn’t dream, and the dream isn’t deep.
Pennies for the richer man
And dollars for the homeless
Speaking loudly for a crowd
That wishes it was empty
Chorus of nonsense, eyes open asleep.
There’s a story forgotten, imperatively.
Import action - inaction, export health, export sleep.
Anathematic? The payment? It is but the fee.
And I don’t know how long I’ll be
But I don’t care just leave me be
I don’t know how long I’ll be
But you can stay just for me
It’s all for me…
Everything…
